Bassist & Composer
Henrik Jensen is a distinguished Danish bassist and composer who has become a prominent figure on the UK jazz scene. He moved to London from Denmark in 1997 to study electric bass at The Musicians Institute. Recognizing his passion for the double bass, Jensen later transitioned to this instrument and furthered his education at the Royal Academy of Music.
Jensen is embarking on an exciting new project that brings together a constellation of three remarkable musicians, featuring Esben Tjalve on piano, and Dave Smith on drums. This trio is dedicated to exploring Jensen's compositions with a strong focus on interplay. The album entitled ‘Above Your House’ showcases the trio’s synergy and creative interplay, while highlighting Jensen’s compositional skills, reflecting both lyrical and rhythmic complexity and display the trio’s ability to create an atmosphere that is both introspective and engaging.
He has performed extensively as a bandleader and a sideman and was part of the New Simplicity Trio which was released on Babel. This will be the fourth album as leader, It follows on from the release on Babel of Henrik’s album Affinity in March 2020, which received outstanding reviews, including praise from The Guardian and the Evening Standard.
Beyond his solo projects, Jensen is actively involved in various collaborations. He has worked with notable artists such as Iain Ballamy, Gareth Williams, Michael Blake, and Gene Calderazzo. His versatility and skill has also led him to feature on various albums, most recent being Steve Banks ‘Emboldent’ John Law’s ‘ Many Moons and Joy Ellis’s ‘Peaceful Place’ Jensen has recorded and toured with The Puppini Sisters since 2008.
